Firstly let me give you a few crumbs of our history.
Robin Jaques and I became partners both at work & in real life 36 years ago. Rob brought with him so much experience in the hospitality industry including several famous Yorkshire landmarks…
The Windmill at Linton, Bull at Broughton and where we met, The Sawley Arms at Sawley.
Nicky, that’s me, the one with the baking experience. I’d spent a few years working my way up the ladder to Manager within Betty’s of Harrogate, the indisputable leader in confectionery!
The concept of our idea was actually born in the kitchen of The Sawley Arms which we managed as a couple. Hence the name.
"Then when the pub was sold, Rob & I found ourselves homeless & without a job. We had a choice… sink or do something INTERESTING!"
So…we knew enough about baking – we had 24hour a day energy to work the hours – and an unshakeable belief that our biscuits were the BEST.
So – we bought a commercial oven called Bridgitte …and decided …to do something interesting. On October 15th 2012 we proudly threw open the doors of The Sawley Kitchen, a Yorkshire Biscuit Bakehouse at Sycamore Business Park Ripon. Since then the Sawley Kitchen has grown beyond recognition.
We now have a designated bakehouse team & Rob and I were thrilled to welcome our son Dan to the family business when he left the parachute regiment 3 years ago.
We provide hotel room biscuits for some of the top 5 star hotels in the realm including
The Ritz Hotel London
The Chester Grosvenor
The Grand Hotel York
We proudly fly the flag of our Yorkshire Heritage as we travel up & down the country, setting up our market stall at numerous events, food shows and festivals.
We also deliver every day to farm shops, delis & cafes nationwide.
But above all, we’d like to say a big thank you to you, our biscuit eating customers. Your individual purchase is as important to us as any large corporate order.
Sadly, I now have to add a little extra footnote.
Robin, my husband & co-founder lost his fight against cancer in March 2020. Rob leaves us so much – his love for the company.. our baking & his ethos of “never compromising on the quality of your ingredients” is still apparent in the fine and unmistakable quality of every packet..
We know that he would be absolutely delighted with our latest team member: Our daughter Loz who is leading our Marketing and Social Media from her home in Lanzarote.
